Main Bathroom – Ensuite – Laundry

Kew

Synopsis
This mid-century modern home, with charming original details sweeping throughout the property, features a split-level parent’s bedroom retreat. The ensuite located in the self-contained parents retreat was designed as a restful space for the clients to conclude their day.

Client Brief
A ‘left of centre’ materials pallet is to be both modern and complimentary to the original mid-century modern details found throughout the property. The room is to be a naturally inviting flow on from the adjoining retreat providing a private place to recharge. Remove the existing bath and hob. A larger walk-in shower with frameless glass shower screen is to include a storage niche. A functional wall hung vanity accompanied by a recessed mirror cabinet. A smart toilet is included on the wish list. Tiles to the ceiling to add height and to reduce painting maintenance.

Design Statement
To create a calming and restful ensuite we focused on reducing visual clutter and establishing activity zones where everything is organised into its place. Half of the space is dedicated to a luxurious shower experience. The mixer tap is to be located at the shower entry and heated towel bars installed within reach as the client exits the shower.

Structural Challenges
A cavity space was revealed behind the location vanity and recessed mirror. We used this as an opportunity to build a custom mirrored cabinet twice as deep as a standard cabinet to allow for the client to store larger items including towels. New joists and subflooring was installed to rectify damages caused from a leak in the shower. The ceiling level was corrected to incorporate a bulkhead containing a roof box gutter.
